My thoughts
This palette reminds me of the old days. When I started out with makeup a couple of years back, the palette I got myself contained all velvet eye shadows. I remember the times I had trouble blending two colors and dealing with a lot of fallouts. I didn’t have proper makeup brushes either. In fact, I didn’t know a thing about makeup. Now that I have learned so much through my blog and I am still learning, I can see myself work this out and I have to say, I enjoyed more than ever creating a look with it.

As you can see in the photos, this palette is a mix of velvet metallic and shimmer shades. It’s a good thing that not all the shades are velvet but I do wish there were more shimmer shades in this palette.

I see quite a repetition of various kinds of pinks, blues, coppers, browns, blacks and greys in this palette. The overall pigmentation is good but the texture varies; some are soft and easy to blend, some gritty and a few not good enough to work with. That said, I think the right kinda brushes definitely make the application easier even with the most troubling eyeshadows.

What I like about velvety shadows is that they’re quite creamy and pigmented but that comes with a price -- the fallouts. This palette is no exception either. There some major fallout with the velvety ones that you need to wipe away in the end.

The blending is easy if you are holding the right brush in hand. By right brush, I mean a good blending brush. You can pat the eyeshadows on your lids with a sponge applicator but for blending, a good quality blending brush is a MUST. It used to be quite difficult for me to achieve my desired look when I didn’t use good quality brushes when I began. I also emphasize on prepping your lids with an eyeshadow primer for the shadows to stay put.

Overall, I think this palette is great for beginners and for those who are looking for some good bunch of velvet eyeshadows. This palette is also good to create some glamorous looks. With a good primer, they don’t stray throughout the day.

You might like it if…
  • You want a palette with velvet eyeshadows.
  • You are on a budget.
  • You expect good pigmentation.
  • You expect easy blending with the right brush in hand.
  • You want eyeshadows to create glamorous looks.
You might not like it if…
  • Velvet eyeshadows aren’t your thing.
  • You don’t prime your lids.
  • You find a lot of color repetition.
  • You can’t put up with the fallouts.
My rating:
3.5/5
