MAC Devoted Poppy Palette – Review & swatch (Guest post)

Hey Guys,
I am Maheen and I am a beauty blogger. Although I have written many reviews and blogposts, I have never done a guest blogpost. I was very interested in doing one and luckily, the oh-so awesome, Sara Hassan had a guest blogging section on her blog and I decided to just give it a go.

The product I am going to be reviewing today is the MAC Devoted Poppy Palette which was from the MAC Passions of red Collection. This collection came out a long time ago but I managed to get my hands on this palette.

What MAC says:
She-devil-sexy serpent-print embossed color compacts to covet in five shades of passion – if passion is red, then red is passion. Bewitchingly bejeweled. The quintessential Holiday color revamped to wreak chic havoc! Be warned: Passion like this simply can’t be contained! Glossy, glamorous, insistently erotic. Lip and eye compacts contain new and bring-back shades for red-hot exclusivity.

What the palette contains:
This set contains six eyeshadows Sweet Eyes, Amorously, In Awe, Young Thing, Awaken and Fall Deeply. It also comes with a mini MAC 213 brush.

What I think about it:
This palette is something that would attract neutral and well as color lovers. It comes with 3 neutral shadows Sweet Eyes, Amorously and Young Thing. It comes with 2 colorful shades Awaken and Fall Deeply. Lastly it has a dramatic shade, In Awe, to just make any look dramatic.

Sweet Eyes: Is a creamy nude shade with a hint of gold. It is great for Highlighting the brow bone and inner corner. Also it can be used as a lid color.

Amorously: Is a metallic coppery color. Its base color is very similar to Amber lights. It is great for a lid color or a subtle crease.

In Awe: Is a matte dark charcoal brown. It is similar to perversion in the sense that it can be used to make any look dramatic or smoked out. It is great for an outer corner shade.

Young Thing: Is a baby pink shade, more on the peachy side. Frankly many pinks do not suit my NC30 skin tone but this one really seems to make my eyes pop! I use it mostly as an allover lid color with a little bit of Sweet Eyes in the inner corner and on the brow bone.

Awaken: Is a pale, shimmery pastel green. Reminds of lush green leaves. Honestly I am not a huge fan of greens. I mostly go for dark greens as compared to lighter ones. I do like the color but I don’t use it as often.

Fall Deeply: Is a mid-tone, very shimmery, Blue. It is not as shimmery as Awaken though. I have used this color only once for my lower lash line. Personally I don’t think there is anything all that special about this color so I am not all that amazed by it.

Mini MAC 213 brush: Is a mini version of the MAC 213 eye shadow brush. I have actually used the full sized 213 brush and I have to say that this brush other than its function does not compare to the full sized version. The quality of the bristles is not as good. Although I will have to add that I have been using this brush for touching up my makeup or applying shadow to the inner corners and this has worked great. It perfect for applying the inner corner color.

Personally I have been using this palette everyday ever since I got it. It is absolutely practical. It has a good range of colors. Every shadow has a great color payoff other than Awaken of course. I love the blend of textures in this palette.  I almost forgot to mention the packaging. It comes in a very pretty red embossed case with a big jewel right in the center. It is a very chic and modern red.

Over all I am a big fan of this palette for the versatility of the colors and the fact that I am a sucker when it comes to packaging :p

Pros:
-Great Range of colors.
-Good Packaging.
-Great quality of the eyeshadows.
-Good color payoff.
-Comes with a mini brush great for touchups on-the-go.

Cons:
-A few shades don’t have the best pigmentation.
-The packaging is kind of thick and bulky.
-It is on the pricier side
-It is limited edition.

I got mine as a gift but you can purchase it from Le Desir or sites like All Cosmetics Wholesale or Bridgette’s Boutique or Ebay.com or Amazon.
